Obtaining Cyprus Citizenship due to Cypriot Origins
Persons of Cypriot descent (by male parentage) who were born before 16 August 1960 and are citizens of the United Kingdom and its colonies (M71)
The acquisition of Cypriot nationality due to Cypriot origin by persons born prior to 16th of August 1960 is determined by the Civil Registry Law.
Right to apply:
It can be submitted by persons born prior to the 16th of August 1960, who are citizens of the United Kingdom and its former colonies, who originate from Cyprus through the male line and reside permanently abroad.
Submission of application
- This application should be accompanied by the necessary documents. These documents should be officially translated and duly certified/authenticated.
- For the submission of the application an amount of fees mentioned below should be paid.
- The application should be signed by a Registrar of Court in Cyprus or by a Consular officer from an Embassy/Consulate abroad or other authorized person.
Fees and stamps
- For the submission of the application a fee of €20 should be paid.
- A stamp of €1.71 should be affixed to the application.
Examination of the application and subsequent actions
- To avoid unnecessary delay of the examination of your application, all applications should be fully and correctly completed and accompanied by all the necessary documents, which should be officially translated and duly certified/authenticated.
- Subsequent the approval of the application, two citizenship certificates will be issued. The certificates should be signed by the applicant before a Consular officer or Registrar of Cypriot Court and a stamp of €8.54 should be affixed to the copy. The stamped copy will be returned to our Department which will then grant Cypriot Citizenship to the applicant.
- After acquiring the Cypriot citizenship an application for identity card and passport can be submitted.
- In case of rejection of the application, the applicant will receive a letter stating the reasons of rejection.

Persons born abroad (consular birth certificate - M121)
Right to apply:
It can be submitted by persons who were born abroad after the 16th of August 1960 and whose at least one parent at the time of their birth was a Cypriot citizen, or was entitled to acquire the Cypriot citizenship by registration due to Cypriot origin.

Persons born on or after August 16, 1960 (M123)
Right to apply:
An application for the acquisition of Cypriot citizenship due to Cypriot origin by adults, of full capacity, who were born on or after August 161960, may be submitted if:
At the time of their birth neither of their parents was a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus- but any of them would be entitled to acquire the Cypriot citizenship by registration due to Cypriot origin- and they descend from a person of Cypriot origin who:
Became a British citizen based on the Annexation of Cyprus Orders from 1914 until 1943 or was born in Cyprus between 5 November 1914 and 16 August 1960, during which time his parents habitually resided in Cyprus.

People of Cypriot descent born before August 16, 1960 (M124)
Τhe acquisition of Cypriot nationality due to Cypriot origin by persons born prior to 16th of August 1960 and are British citizens or citizens of any State of the Commonwealth and have completed one year of legal residence in the Republic, is determined by the Civil Registry Law.
Right to apply:
It can be submitted by adults of cypriot origins, who were born before the 16th of August 1960 and are British citizens or citizens of any State of the Commonwealth and have completed one year of legal residence in the Republic.

Registration of a minor child as a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus (M126)
Acquisition of Cypriot citizenship by minors whose parents acquired the Cypriot citizenship after their birth is determined by the Civil Registry Law.
Right to apply:
This application can be submitted for minors, whose parents acquired the Cypriot citizenship after the birth of the minor applicant, either by registration(due to Cypriot origin) or naturalization(due to years of legal residence in Cyprus).
